The full interview
Q: Can you tell us about your business and the main challenges you were facing before Digital Florists?
We're a busy, family-run florist in Dublin, covering the everyday and the special, bouquets, funerals, weddings, corporate and online orders. Before Digital Florists we were on Strelitzia and paper. We were losing data, making mistakes, and we had no year-on-year data to work from. It looked unprofessional and it was a bit of a mess.
Q: How were those challenges affecting the business?
It was hitting our sales and our projections, because without good data we couldn't see where things were going. There were miscommunications too. And honestly it looked unprofessional to customers, which is the last thing you want when people are trusting you with something for an occasion.
Q: What were you hoping new software would do for you?
Everything we weren't doing. We wanted clarity and cohesion across the business, one place where the orders, the deliveries and the data all came together, instead of pieces in different places.
Q: Why did you choose Digital Florists?
The support was amazing, and it's easy to use and looks great. The YouTube playlists made the training straightforward for us. And it was good value for what we were getting. It ticked the things that mattered to us.
Q: Which parts of the software have helped most?
The delivery app is fantastic. It does everything we need that our previous delivery app at €100 a month was doing, so that's a big one for us. Having all our orders on one system instead of Strelitzia and paper makes a real difference, and the syncing with our website products is excellent.
Q: Has anything surprised you in how you use it?
The dashboard data has been the surprise, really. Being able to see future orders and pull out the details on our top 100 customers is insight into the business we'd never have had before. The Companion App is great too for the team out on deliveries.
Q: You also take relay orders. How does that work now?
We're on Interflora and Direct2Florist. Those orders land in Digital Florists ready for us to prep and deliver, sitting in with our own orders rather than off on the side somewhere.
Q: How did setup go?
Much easier than expected. My advice would be don't hesitate and wait for the right time, get on with it. The support and guidance from Lewis and Gemma since we started has been second to none, they're constantly improving things and reactive to any issues.
Q: How did your team take to it?
Really well. Nadine says it's quick and easy to use, and Niall finds the accounts section invaluable. It didn't take long for everyone to be comfortable with it.
Q: What's changed at peaks?
Peaks are much easier and faster now, and no mistakes. That's the bit I really feel, because peaks used to be where everything could go wrong on the old setup.
Q: Has anything changed for your customers?
Customer details only need to be entered once now, so we're more on top of things and there's less room for the mix-ups that used to make us look unprofessional.
Q: How would you sum up the impact on the business?
Digital Florists is a must for every busy retail florist. It's brought clarity and cohesion, it's given us insight into the business we'd never have had, and the delivery app alone has been worth it. It's been a real step up for us.
